The University of Pune (UoP) received a lot of flak from noted Director Dr Jabbar Patel, who was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the hands of distinguished scientist Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, on the occasion of the 64th Foundation Day of the UoP on Sunday.
Patel criticised the UoP for giving no importance to the Performing Arts faculty and said that it was the responsibility of the university to make good artists out of students.

“There is no importance given to the Arts faculties [in UoP]. I am not finding a single dedicated complex where students, especially those belonging to Performing Arts, can showcase their talent,” Patel lamented.
“There is huge scope for research in the fields of theatre, music, dance and film. There should be multiple media discipline on the campus,” he specified. As a result, UoP Vice-Chancellor Dr W N Gade assured Patel in his presidential speech that the varsity will definitely focus on these points in the near future. “We will definitely work on starting a multimedia research centre with the help of Patel,” he said.
