"I'm disappointed with the decision to charge me and hope to be given the chance to clear my name as quickly as possible," said Terry, who was caught on camera making a remark, although he claimed he was merely repeating an accusation he felt had been made by Ferdinand. "I have never aimed a racist remark at anyone and count people from all races and creeds among my closest friends. I will fight tooth and nail to prove my innocence," he added.
Terry fit for Spurs clash
The decision to press charges came a day before Chelsea, fourth in the table, travel to third-placed Tottenham for a highly anticipated London derby in which Terry is expected to play. Terry was seen hobbling out of a training session at Chelsea's Cobham base on Monday morning, but the club insist the injury is not as bad as it initially appeared, and that the centre-back will be ready to face Spurs.
Meanwhile, Liverpool forward Luis Suarez reacted to the news that he was handed an eight-match ban and fined 40,000 by the FA after he was found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra by insisting it has been a "very difficult and painful day" for the Uruguayan and his family. An FA investigation took place after Evra had accused Suarez of racism during Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Anfield on October 15. Suarez tweeted: "Today is a very difficult and painful day for both me and my family. Thanks for all the support, I'll keep working!"
