You might not emerge as a small screen celebrity, but at this local take on The Amazing Race, you will be running around the city with as much gusto as you see on the telly.

The Amazing Hunt, organised by the Mt Carmel's Youth Movement, is an annual treasure hunt that tests your physical and mental skills.

"Participants will have to crack codes, solve puzzles or perform tasks before they get their next clue," says Fr Warner D'Souza of Mt Carmel Church.

"This will take them to historical places as well as modern locations around the suburb." To promote their focus on caring for the environment, you get to use bicycles to move around as well.

"Our purpose is to ensure youngsters interact on a personal level, beyond the Internet. It's sad that an outing is limited to watching films or hanging out at a coffee shop.

We hope to bring back that joy we felt when we played chor-police, by organising such games," adds Fr Warner, quite the star among Bandra's youth.

If you're signing up only for the prize money, you could bag the moolah pooled by participants, and some more. Fr Warner's parting words: Don't cheat.

The team who took a rickshaw last year (you can't use public transport) waved out to Fr Warner during their hunt, and ended up being disqualified.

If you think you can outsmart everybody, think again plain-clothes referees will be patrolling the route.

Violence and vandalism when the Indian Parliament is in session might make for hilarious, voyeuristic videos but also come as a huge embarrassment to the nation.

Maybe our MPs could take a cue from the Indian Debating Union that is to hold a parliamentary-style debate on contemporary issues.

Well-managed and structured, with multiple POVs being given equal weightage, it will witness two trained teams comprising two members each, who will propose and oppose the motion This house would repeal all constitutional amendments in favour of reservations.

The audience gets to vote and decide the winner.

The event hopes to provide an insight to professional debates as well as logical solutions to present-day issues. Besides, one gets the chance to interact with some of the city's sharpest debaters.

Bonding over Bansuri legend Pannalal

When Amulya Jyoti Ghosh (or Pannalal as he was fondly known as) was nine, while looking for a stick, he stumbled on a flute floating in the river.

He retrieved it and thus began his lifelong affair with the bansuri. The child prodigy went on to give Krishna's humble instrument an independent identity, playing compositions almost unheard of among present-day flautists.
