Dr Fayzan Khan (30) was staying alone at the Zam Zam guesthouse in Dongri. Fayzan was discovered when an employee of the guesthouse failed to receive a response after knocking on the door to his room. They broke into the room and found him lying unconscious. He was later admitted to J J Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital found marks on his neck and suspect that he may have tried to hang himself first, and then consumed a poisonous substance.

Earlier this year, Khan had accused a sub-inspector from Pydhonie police station of demanding a bribe of Rs 25,000 from him. On February 3, 2012, MiD DAY reported that Dr Fayzan had lodged a written complaint to the then police chief against Sub-inspector Suddam Sanab of Pydhonie (‘Give me Rs 25,000, or I will brand you a terrorist’). He even provided video footage of the policeman asking him to pay a bribe of Rs 25,000 or face arrest in a fake currency racket.

Cops investigating the matter say that they haven’t yet managed to trace any members of Fayzan’s family.

T P Lahane, dean of J J hospital said, “The patient had consumed poison and also tried to hang himself. He was very uncooperative when he was brought to the hospital. He was refusing to be treated and refused to speak to cops as well.”

Police Inspector Sudhir Mali of the Dongri police station said, “We cannot reveal anything as we are yet to take a statement from Fayzan. He is now in a stable condition and is undergoing several check-ups. We are still unsure whether he attempted suicide.” u00a0
