Event organiser Bittu Singh, who is in the eye of a storm after the Mumbai police made him an accused in the case related to the firing outside film producer Karim Morani’s house allegedly ordered by gangster Ravi Pujari, has denied knowing the underworld don.

mid-day had reported on September 2 that the police were going to make New Jersey-based Singh, who is an event organiser, an accused in the incident in which three men, allegedly from Pujari’s gang, fired five rounds outside Morani’s house. The producer also received threat messages from a main claiming to be Pujari.

Police had learnt that Singh had asked the Moranis to organise a show of the SLAM tour, which will be organised to promote upcoming film Happy New Year, of which Morani is a producer. The latter had said he couldn’t do so, as he had no say in the tour programme. Sources had said Morani had started receiving the threats after his refusal.

“I really don’t know why my name has been dragged into this. I don’t even know Ravi Pujari; neither have I ever sent him messages,” Singh told mid-day. Singh said he has known the Moranis (Karim and Ali) for many years. “I have known them for 15 years and have been doing shows for so many years. I did ask Morani for the show, like any other organiser would, but I’ve nothing to do with what happened between him and Ravi Pujari.”

When told that the police suspect his involvement in the case, Singh asserted he had nothing to do with the gangster or his threats, but that he had only sent messages to Morani regarding the shows. “I am accessible on the phone and anyone can get in touch with me,” Singh said, when told of the police’s suspicions about him.

Singh is a close relative of producer Mukesh Duggal and has been organising shows in the US for many years. Duggal was gunned down in 1997 outside his office.
