Dr. LoveI don't like meeting my boyfriend more than once a week because I simply don't have the time. He finds this offensive. How do I make him understand?

There's nothing to make him understand because he's not a child. If you're busy, you're busy.

There are two friends of my boyfriend who constantly warn him about going out with me. They badmouth me at every opportunity, which I am aware of because he tells me exactly what they say. I don't know why they do this, because they barely know me and I was introduced to them only after my boyfriend and I got together. I am always polite and civil to them whenever we go out, and they never say anything nasty when I am around, but the comments start coming the minute I leave. I have asked my boyfriend why he tolerates it or doesn't bother changing their opinion of me, and he says that this is just how they are and that they have always been unkind to anyone he has dated. Should I just stop meeting them?

Your boyfriend is aware of how his friends react whenever they are introduced to his girlfriends. He recognises that they are being unkind, and the fact that he shares what they say with you means he realizes how ridiculous they are being. If he were to take what they were saying seriously, he probably wouldn't discuss it with you. I agree that they are being childish for no apparent reason, but a lot of men think it's perfectly okay to be disparaging about women their friends are with. They take it as a delusional sign of being macho, which won't stop anytime soon until they are brought up with better values and learn to be more respectful towards people in general. The best thing to do is avoid meeting them. If they have no respect for you, why do you need to be polite about spending time with them?
