Former teammate tells run-starved Sachin to 'sit back calmly and reflect'

Rahul Dravid has some advice for his former India teammate Sachin Tendulkar: “Sit back calmly and reflect.”

Tendulkar’s future in the game after a disappointing Test series against England is as hot a topic as India’s 1-2 loss.

Dravid told Cricinfo in a series review: “It’s a pretty emotional time, he should take the emotion out of it, sit back, there’s time before the next Australia series.” Dravid himself took a call on his retirement after a disappointing tour of Australia in 2011-12.

He suggested some of the big wigs in Indian cricket talk to Tendulkar about his plans.

“He is a proud man and this would have hurt him. People need to have a conversation with him and see what’s his state of mind, what he’s thinking and what his plans are. After that conversation, he himself will have to think about a few things because I'm not sure there are many people who can take the decisions regarding Tendulkar.

“At some stage, Sachin will have to make decisions on his own,” said Dravid, bringing up India’s important future tours to South Africa, New Zealand and England.

“And irrespective of whatever decision he takes, in the end we have to respect it,” Dravid concluded.

The Banglorean played Test cricket alongside Tendulkar continuously from the time he made his Test debut against England at Lord’s in 1996. In 143 Tests together, they scored a record 6920 runs for India. Tendulkar made his debut against Pakistan in 1989-90.
