Police officers from the anti-organised crime cell of the city's Crime Branch arrested a notorious drug peddler and applied charges of illegal gun possession after they recovered four firearms one revolver, three pistols and three live cartridges from him yesterday.

The arrested accused was identified as Dnyaneshwar alias Bala Naryan Sabale (25), a resident of Ahmednagar, and was picked up from hotel Arpita, Sant Nagar, on the Lohegaon-Wagholi Road.

According to the police, they received a tip-off that Sabale was visiting the hotel, and a team of police personnel raided the hotel and arrested him. A case under the Arms Act has been registered against Sabale at Airport police station.

ACP (crime) Rajendra Bhamre said that Sabale was a history-sheeter and a case under the NDPS Act was previously registered against him at Kotwali police station, Ahmednagar. “He was out on bail and had obtained the weapons from his accomplice. We are now on the lookout for his associate and are also probing his links with criminal gangs in the city,” Bhamre said.
