Drunk driver hits 3,   kills 1 in Bandra

An on duty policeman was killed and four others seriously injured after a 26-year-old merchant navy officer driving his Honda Civic after a drink too many, rammed into three vehicles near Bandra-Worli Sea Link at Bandra Reclamation, late on Friday night. Andrews Bryan Steven (26), a resident of Son Peter Quarter in Mazgaon, who was also injured in the accident, was produced in court and granted bail on Saturday.

According to the police Steven was driving at high speed when he lost control of his car and hit three other vehicles. The incident took place just before midnight. Steven's mother is the principal of a reputed school at Byculla.

According to eyewitness accounts, the young man was driving through Bandra Reclamation in his Civic (MH48 A 5379) when he rammed into the motorbike (MH01 ASA 2718) of a Beat-Marshall. He then crashed into an auto-rickshaw (MH02 AV 2068) and a taxi (MH01 AT 627). One of the cops, Hanumant Namdev Falke (45) died soon after he was rushed to the hospital. The condition of the other beat marshall, Rajendra Ajit Nikam (32) is critical and he is being treated at Lilavati hospital.

Injured auto-rickshaw driver Mohammed Afzal Abdul Rashid Sasha (24), his passenger, Vidya Vanzare (25), along with a taxi driver Mohammed Aslam (48) have been admitted to the Bhabha hospital. u00a0“We have produced Steven in court where he got bail,” said a police officer from Bandra police station.u00a0
