Drunk youth kidnaps, rapes 5-year-old girl

A five-year-old child was kidnapped and raped by a drunk youth on Sunday night in a wooded area in Andheri (W). The accused rapist, arrested two hours after the incident, has been identified as Salman Ejat (22) from Kolkata.

Suspect nailed: Salman Ejat has been booked under section 376 (rape) and 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 4, 8, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

The Oshiwara police found blood on his private parts and suspect it is the survivor’s. They are waiting for medical reports to confirm the suspicion. The child has been admitted to KEM Hospital.

After the gang rape of a photojournalist at Shakti Mills, a circular was sent out to all police stations, asking that security be fortified at isolated places like forests, abandoned mills and open spaces. But it seems that police are yet to take note of the instructions.

The accused had arrived in Mumbai five days ago to work as a home decorator. He had rented a place in a slum in Jogeshwari (West). Inspector Ravindra Patil of Oshiwara police station said, “He was drunk when he was arrested from the locality. We have sent him to Nagpada hospital for medical examination.”

According to the police, the child was playing with her two brothers and a cousin at the ground near her home in Oshiwara. Around 7.30 pm, a drunk Ejat arrived and kidnapped her. Incidentally, the child’s uncle, a handicapped person, saw the youth take the child with him, but thought he was a family friend taking the child for a walk.

But Ejat took her to an isolated spot in the forests near Tukaram Ombale garden on Veera Desai Road, raped her and left her bleeding there, cops said.

Hunt begins
After the incident, a pedestrian heard agonised cries from the woods and found the bleeding child. He took her to Oshiwara police station and narrated the incident to the cops. Meanwhile, the child’s family and neighbors started looking for her.

When they arrived at the police station to register a ‘missing person’ complaint, they found her there.

The police launched a vigorous search operation, along with more than 50 people from the locality near the forests. Police detained 25 persons and brought them to the police station for an ID parade, where the child, her uncle and cousin identified Ejat.

Assistant police commissioner Narsingh Sherkhane, Oshiwara division, said, “The accused was in an inebriated condition at the time of the crime. He carried her off on his shoulders and assaulted her sexually. He was arrested two hours after the incident.”

College student rapes 17-year-old friend in Andheri
In another incident in Andheri (W), a 20-year-old college student raped his 17-year-old friend on Sunday night in a forest near Four Bungalows. The accused, identified as Amal Kumar, is still at large.

According to the Versova police, the woman and the accused are from Pune and have been staying at Versova for three years.

Kumar called her to the woods to meet him at night. When she reached the spot, he forced himself upon her and fled, cops said.

She has registered a rape case with the Versova police station. u00a0
