Don Bosco (Matunga) avenged their DSO Subroto Mukherji defeat when they outclassed Cathedral & John Connon (Fort) 1-0 in the final to clinch the District Sports Office (DSO) U-14 inter-school football title at Worli Sports Club ground yesterday.

Cathedral had defeated Don Bosco in the final (4-2 via tiebreaker) of the DSO Subroto Mukherji tournament nearly two months ago, but this time, riding on Shyam Redekar’s solitary goal, Don Bosco managed to turn it around.

Both teams played within themselves. Defences too were quite organised, which made it harder for their opponents to breach in. However, it was Don Bosco who questioned the Cathderal defence, scoring eventually when Krishna Karkera’s errant ball caused havoc in the box which winger Shyam latched on to score past the ‘keeper.

Cathedral tried to grab the equaliser, but were shunted by the ever impressive central defensive duo of Vansh Kale and Shree Harsh Suryapalli. Don Bosco coach Mohan Pillay was a happy man and was ecstatic to see his side turn the tables on the Fort outfit. “We lost in the tie breaker unluckily to Cathedral in the finals of the last DSO Subroto tournament. I was confident today that we would win it this time. I thought we would score more today but it was not to be,” Pillay told mid-day.

Goal scorer Shyam was brimming with joy after the game. “It is a very nice feeling to score in such an important match. We lost in the previous finals against the same team. Our sir trained us even harder after it and it bore fruit today,” he said.
