ED to attach Balwa's properties

Powered by a Supreme Court order, Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has gone on a drive to appropriate properties belonging to the tainted businessman Shahid Balwa, who is presently embroiled in the 2G scam.

Powered by a Supreme Court order, Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has gone on a drive to appropriate properties belonging to the tainted businessman Shahid Balwa, who is presently embroiled in the 2G scam. ED sources informed that they have listed dozens of properties belonging to Balwa.

Realty list
Among the important seizures would be Balwa's fleet of private aircrafts. A slew of other properties owned by BB Realty is in the fray. He owns huge properties at Palanpur, in the Banaskata district of Gujarat. Balwa has also acquired properties at Orchid City central mall, Orchid Enclave, Orchid Tower, China Building, Shuklaji Street, Kali building, Bellasis Road, and Umar Jamal Compound.

Also in question are the three multi-storey towers consisting of flats worth hundreds of crores of rupees, and a three-storey shopping mall worth Rs 300 crore, which stands on the WAQF property of the Haji Zakariya Ahmed Patel Mohammadan Orphanage & Asylum Trust, in Mumbai Central.

Also under investigation is a piece of land measuring 13837.06 sqm with the cadastral survey no. 243, which was sold by the Trustees of BB Realty for a meagre Rs one crore in September 2004, to a builder, M/S Neel Kamal Realtors & Builders Pvt. Ltd.

Statement
The DB Realty spokesperson issued a statement, which said, "To the best of our knowledge this information is incorrect. No properties of Shahid Balwa or Vinod Goenka have been attached in the 2G case."
