Asha Narayan Lagad (72), resident of Laxmi Nivas at Phadtare chowk in Sadashiv Peth, was found murdered at her residence last night. Prima facie, robbery appears to be the motive, as gold ornaments and cash are missing.

She was the owner of the building and had rented out flats and shops.

She has two sons and a grandson.

The deceased stayed alone and her grandson stayed in the neighbourhood. “The grandson called us informing about her death. A neighbour said, she was having tea around 4.30 pm and was found dead later.

Suspecting something wrong, the neighbour called Asha’s grandson, who noticed some ornaments missing and informed the police,” said DCP Makarand Ranade.

Cops said, Rs 75,000 in cash and nine tolas of ornaments have been stolen. “Prima facie, death has been caused by strangulation. We suspect someone known to the victim is behind the act,” Ranade informed.
