Mumbai Guide: Go on a unique treasure hunt and discover heritage places

Did you know that Mumbai got its first street lamps in 1865? Or that Electric House in Colaba housed a "showroom" to advise customers on electrical appliances and convince them to use electricity? If you have been privy to such facts about the city's history before reading this, you might be the ideal candidate to crack Eco Hunt, a unique treasure hunt to discover monuments associated with energy and transport.

But here's a twist. In a bid to promote the government's push towards sustainable energy, the hunt can be pursued only via electric vehicles. The first such trail in India, its purpose is to help participants discover the city's heritage in a fun format while spreading awareness of environmentally friendly ways to travel within the city. Organised by Road Trippers Club (RTC, a community that fuels the passion for discovering new places, people and experiences), in partnership with Khaki Tours, the hunt will be flagged off near the Stock Exchange.

Ruchik Gandhi of RTC says, "While RTC continues to explore new places outside the city, we felt a need to expand the meaning of road trips to include local discovery and thereby have more people experience the camaraderie on wheels. Each clue is related to sustainability either in terms of electricity, environment or transport."

Open to 18 teams (minimum two and maximum four per team), the first team to crack all six of the 12 clues required to complete the hunt will be declared the winner.

And for participants who don't own electric cars, a company that rents out such cars on subscription will provide nine vehicles to help pursue the quest.

On: August 19, 11 am
Starts at: The Bar Terminal, near Bar Stock Exchange, Fort.
Call: 9987559693
Entry: Rs 500 per team (proceeds will go to Khaki Library to buy books for the underprivileged)
