A 48-year-old woman lost her life while three others, including her daughter and son, were grievously injured in an accident that occurred near Ozarde village on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway around 5 am yesterday.

Life cut short: Mangled remains of the car the Chinchwadkars were travelling in, after it rammed into the truck on the Expressway yesterday

While the deceased was identified as Dr Vrunda Gajanan Chinchwadkar, a resident of Ajintha Avenue in Kothrud, those injured in the mishap were Chinchwadkar’s daughter Radhika (18), son Raghav (13) and driver Ganesh Bhagwant Chavan (33), a resident of Khed.

The injured were admitted to the ICU at the Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi. Police officials said the incident occurred after the car rammed into the truck that was in front of it on the Expressway.

Officer S B Kadam of the Talegaon police station said, “Chinchwadkar and her children were returning home from Mumbai airport after spending Diwali vacations in China with her husband Gajanan, an accounts chief at an MNC, who was recently transferred there.

Chinchwadkar was in the front seat, next to the driver, and probably died on the spot. All four were rushed to the hospital, where Chinchwadkar was declared dead before admission by the doctors.”
