The accused has been identified as Ishadur Haffizur Rehman. A resident of Lokhandwala Complex in Agripada, Rehman runs a clinic in Mazgaon, Byculla.

Rehman's arrest
According to the police, while they were checking vehicles at Navanagar Junction in Byculla on Monday night, they spotted Rehman's car with a red beacon.

Besides, the car even sported a police logo. When the officers stopped and started enquiring, Rehman identified himself as an MBBS and a doctor by profession.

"When we asked him the reason for putting up a red beacon on his car, the accused claimed that he is a police doctor. This aroused our suspicion and we started questioning him," said an officer from Byculla police station.

After questioning Rehman, when the police searched his car, they discovered a couple of walkie-talkies, an unlicenced one revolver, 14 SIM cards, two beacons, a press card, four live cartridges, three mobile handsets and some phoney id cards. He was then taken into custody.

"Rehman's wife Wahida, who is a doctor, told us that Rehman has been undergoing treatment for psychological disorders. Moreover, we are yet to ascertain his credentials as a doctor, and the clinic run by him. We will also check whether he has a valid licence for the revolver," said the officer.

In police custody
Rehman has been booked for cheating and impersonating a public servant along with various sections of Motor Vehicles Act and has been remanded to police custody till December 12.

Beacon on a cool cab
A few days ago, the traffic police had intercepted an additional commissioner from Income Tax Department, who was spotted moving around in a cool cab with a red beacon. According to the traffic officials, it had come to their notice that some vehicles have been using beacons by breaching the government protocol. Stating that the use of beacons without permission is entirely illegal, the cops stated that terrorists or anti-social elements to execute their wretched plans could use such vehicles.
