Under Secretary of Legislature Secretariat, who switched off her cellphone and went over to her brother's place in Alibaug after a fight with her husband, sparked a high-level probe by the police; she returned yesterday

The mystery of the missing Under Secretary of State Legislature Secretariat, who was untraceable since last Friday, has finally been solved. The 47-year-old Sayali Suchit Kambali had called her family from her mobile phone from Churchgate station on Friday, after which her phone was switched off. She had not returned home and her husband had registered a missing complaint with the police that resulted in a search.

On Friday, Kambali working with the State Legislature Secretariat had called her husband, Suchit, at their residence in Bandra Government Colony around 1.30 pm. Following that, there was no trace of her and her cell phone was also switched off. As a result, Suchit had approached the Churchgate Government Railway Police (GRP) and registered a missing complaint.

“We had sent teams to various areas to search for her and had contacted several people working with the Secretariat. However, on Monday, she returned back herself and told us that she was in Alibaug, at her brother’s place, after a dispute with her husband,” said Bansidar Shirsat, deputy commissioner of police, GRP.

Interestingly, the police had started a high-level search for her and senior authorities had called those working with the Legislature to make inquiries. The GRP crime branch was also inquiring into the case and had taken call records of all people who interacted with her on a regular basis. The police said that they will council Kambali regarding the dispute with her husband. “From there it will be her call to take a decision on her and her husband’s relationship,” a police official added.
