Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand announced to the world on Thursday night that the EPL giants had hired Jose Mourinho as their new manager even before the club made any formal announcement

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand announced to the world on Thursday night that the English Premier League giants had hired Jose Mourinho as the new manager.

The club had at the time not yet officially announced the hire.

He tweeted the news, writing "Jose... Signed... Sealed... Delivered!"

And he wrote on Facebook, where he had some advice for the incoming Man Utd coach as well.

The legendary Red Devil wrote on Facebook, "Congratulations to Jose on being announced manager of the biggest club in the world!

"This is Jose Mourinho's most exciting and most challenging job yet."

The 37-year-old, who made 312 appearances for Manchester United between 2002 and 2014, took to his Facebook account to praise his former club for appointing Mourinho.

The ex-defender thinks that restoring United to their former glory will be the most exciting and challenging job Mourinho has faced.

Ferdinand congratulated Mourinho for landing the job at the "world's biggest club" and had some advice for the new manager.

"The first thing he needs to do is install ‘winning mentality’ back into the club. Get this ingredient back into the players but also the people that work inside the club day to day. Give them back that belief so it is breathing throughout the club again, which is so important. But doing the above in the Manchester United way is equally as important," he wrote.

Ferdinand reassured United fans that Mourinho was the right chouice because the Portuguese is a winner and his CV is full of success stories.

"One thing I can tell Manchester United fans is that they have got themselves a true winner in all aspects. His CV shows success!" Ferdinand wrote on FB.

He though threw in a word of caution about the prospect of Mourinho encouraging young talent from the Manchester United youth ranks as he asked people to wait and watch since that could be answered only in time.

He said, "Another doubt I keep hearing and being asked is, will he keep in with the tradition of the club which is bringing through the young players? For the moment, I can't answer this, only time will tell."

Mourinho's hurt at being fired by Chelsea in December will ensure that like a wounded animal he would turn that pain into motivation and turn fifth-placed Manchester United into title-winning team again.

"After his recent unsuccessful time at Chelsea in the final year, I can assure you this winner is now a wounded animal which makes him such a mouthwatering appointment," Ferdinand opined.

"Jose went from winning the League Cup and Premier League to losing a dressing room at Chelsea and I am certain he will want to restore all of that very quickly.

"He will be desperate to silence the media who have been writing and saying negative things about him (he will have stored it all being the competitor he is) and will be as focused as ever.

"Mourinho's huge personality is made for this great club, it's what he has been waiting for. Wishing him all the best!"

The 53-year-old replaces Dutchman Louis van Gaal whose two-year reign at Old Trafford ended on Monday, two days after United lifted the FA Cup.
