FIFA World Cup 2018: Dream 11

The FIFA World Cup 2018 has finally come to an end and France put on a goal-fest against Croatia in the final at Moscow to lift the trophy for the second time in their history. Some expected players did really well in the tournament, a few new names came to the fore and some players regarded as the best in the world faded into oblivion. On June 14th 2018, nobody would have expected that Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar would fail to make it to the semifinals and very few had predicted a World Cup 2018 Best XI squad without any of them.

We have compiled the Best XI from the FIFA World Cup 2018 with a 3-4-3 formation based on performances:

Hugo Lloris (France): Goalkeeper
Despite his goal-keeping howler in the final and the Golden Glove being awarded to Thibaut Courtois, Hugo Lloris makes it to our list as the best goalkeeper of the World Cup. The Frenchman captained his team against major contenders keeping two clean sheets in the knockouts. Hugo Lloris's campaign was highlighted by his heroic display in France's 2-0 win against Uruguay in the quarterfinal.

Domagoj Vida ( Croatia): Defender
With his lightning pace matching speeds with the fastest attackers in the World Cup, and his aerial abilities in-front of the opponent's goal, Domagoj Vida makes it to the list of the best defenders of the tournament.

Raphael Varane (France): Defender
Standing like a rock in-front of France's goal all through the World Cup, Raphael Varane formed a formidable partnership with Samuel Umtiti to diffuse all kinds of attacks during France's campaign. His calm demeanor helped France hold their nerve in tense situations.

Samuel Umtiti (France): Defender
The duo of Samuel Umtiti and Raphael Varane helped France keep three clean sheets through the World Cup. Hugo Lloris was kept rather unflustered with the two defenders keeping him covered.

Paul Pogba (France): Midfielder
Paul Pogba held France's midfield together with pin-point through balls and crucial goals in vital situations. He scored a stunning career-defining goal in the final against Croatia to justify his price-tag in world football

Luka Modric (Croatia): Midfielder
The Golden Ball winner Luka Modric was the best player of the tournament. He led Croatia with great courage and grit to take them to the final and will be a real contender for the Balon d'Or this year.

Denis Cheryshev (Russia): Midfielder
Denis Cheryshev highlighted Russia's dream run in their home World Cup with four goals in five games. Russia's World Cup ended in a heartbreaking penalty-shootout defeat to Croatia in the quarterfinal, but world football had a new star to look forward to.

Eden Hazard (Belgium): Midfielder
Eden Hazard once again cemented his place in the list of the best players in the world with his display in the tournament. He scored four goals for Belgium and ensured they finished third in the tournament.

Kylian Mbappe (France): Forward
The first 19-year old since Pele to score a goal in a World Cup final, Kylian Mbappe was perhaps the most talked about player of the FIFA World Cup 2018. His Olympian speed with the ball in the attacking half and his goal-scoring precision earned him four massive goals in France's World Cup winning campaign. A self-proclaimed Cristiano Ronaldo fan, Kylian Mbappe filled up the Portuguese star's absence in the later stages of the World Cup.

Antoine Griezmann (France): Forward
Antoine Griezmann lived up to his pre-tournament billing as one of the best strikers in the world with conviction. He scored four goals for France including a vital penalty in the final. Along-with Kylian Mbappe, the duo ensured plenty of goals for France in almost all matches

Harry Kane (England): Forward
Captain of England's exciting World Cup campaign and Golden Boot winner with six goals, Harry Kane lit up the tournament with grace and composure in front of the opponent's goal. Although most of his goals were from penalties, he powered England to the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup 2018
