After a week of controversy over the new Vasai east-west flyover, which was thrown open by frustrated locals and then closed by MMRDA again, the Rail Over Bridge (ROB) will finally be officially inaugurated tomorrow. This comes more than a month after the bridge construction was completed. Upset that they were still being forced to suffer hours of traffic on the older, dilapidated bridge, locals decided to open the new ROB themselves on June 15. mid-day has reported on their plight with a series of reports on the issue. After MMRDA closed the ROB again, several political parties held their own ‘inaugurations’, but only now will it finally be open to the public.

“The Vasai ROB will be inaugurated on Saturday,” said additional metropolitan commissioner Pravin Darade. Guardian Minister of Palghar and senior leader Vishnu Sawra will inaugurate the ROB.
BJP’s Yuva Morcha president (Vasai area), Prakash Lodaya, said, “Senior party workers, mayor and others will be present for the opening of the bridge on Saturday. This will be the final opening as work was pending earlier.”
