Five of a family killed as car crashes into wall
Victims were returning home after visiting Goddess Ekvira's temple in Karla, when their vehicle went out of control and rammed into the retaining wall of a bungalow
A devotional trip to Karla turned fatal for a family, as five of its members were killed and one other injured in a major accident near Treasure Island resort in Lonavla yesterday (Sunday) evening, when their car rammed into the retaining wall of a bungalow.
The impact was so powerful that Janardan Waskar (65), his wife Leela (60), and their sons Rupesh (40) and Ravindra (35) died on the spot, while their relative Suvarna Waskar succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Another kin Aanchal Waskar (age not known) is critically injured and was admitted to Parmar Hospital in Lonavla, but was later shifted to another hospital.
“The Waskars hail from Peth Gaon in Kharghar (Navi Mumbai), and were returning home after visiting Goddess Ekvira’s temple in Karla at about 4.30 pm.
Their Swift car (MH 06 AN 2223) went out of control and rammed into the retaining wall of a bungalow,” said inspector Vishnu Pawar of Lonavala Police Station (City). Further probe is on.
