"There is a 5th Indian film showing at Cannes 'Kalpana' (1948) directed by Uday Shankar, restored by Scorcese. Now, 'Kalpana' is the film where Guru Dutt first worked as an AD, he typed the script of it. His experience on it became the basis for 'Pyaasa'," Kashyap wrote on twitter.

"Kalpana was also the most modern film of its time, about a writer pitching his story to a producer made in 1948. The whole film was written at Uday Shankar's dance academy in Almorah, which became the hub of future artists of India, also Zohra Sehgal," he tweeted.

Three films from Kashyap's production house have made it to different sections at Cannes this year. His two-part directorial venture 'Gangs of Wasseypur' is part of Director's Fortnight while 'Peddlers' by debutant Vasan Bala will be screened at Cannes Critics Week.

'Miss Lovely', directed by Ashim Ahluwalia, will also be screened in the Un Certain Regard category at Cannes. We have 5 at Cannes... awesome," Kashyap wrote.u00a0
