An auto driver was hacked to death by five men near Empire Square sales office at Chinchwad in the early hours of Sunday morning. Cops suspect the incident to be a fallout of some previous enmity.

The deceased has been identified as Nigdi resident Parvesh Shahid Mohammad Usmani (28). His brother Shakir (22) filed a complaint at Pimpri police against five persons.

One of the suspects’ mentioned in the complaint, Baba Munir Qureshi (20), was later arrested by the Deccan police. Another accused Basu alias Basavraj Natekar and his accomplices have also been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code in the case.

According to Pimpri police, Usmani was allegedly having illicit relations with one of Natekar’s relatives. Suspicious of the affair, an enraged Natekar had warned Usmani of dire consequences during a tiff 15 days ago.

On Sunday, police said the five suspects chased Usmani to the auto cluster in Chinchwad at 2 am. Usmani then took shelter at the security guard’s cabin, situated in the sales office of Empire Square building.

The accused, however, barged into the cabin and dragged Usmani out. They then attacked Usmani with sharp weapons and fled from the spot. Police Inspector (crime) B B Mudiraj of Pimpri police station is investigating the case.
