The Chatushringi police have booked Kalayani Deshpande and two of her accomplices for allegedly forcing a Mumbai-based model into prostitution by promising her a lucrative modeling offer.

Deshpande has several cases of flesh trade and running a prostitution racket registered against her in the city. The 23-year-old model, who managed to run away from Deshpande’s bungalow in Pashan-Sus Road on Saturday, approached the police station and lodged a complaint. Deshpande and her two accomplices, Ravi and John, have been booked under various sections including Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act. However, all three are absconding and the police have intensified the manhunt to track them down.

“Deshpande obtained the number of the Mumbai-based model and asked her to come down to Pune by talking about a lucrative modeling offer. The victim came on March 7 and met Deshpande,” said Police Inspector, Ajay Kadam of the Chatushringi police station.

Deshpande and her two accomplices then took the victim to Shivajinagar and asked her to go with two customers. “The victim got suspicious and told the two people that she would return in a moment. But she fled from the spot and called up Deshpande and questioned her about her intentions. However, Deshpande convinced her to meet her and the victim fell for the trap,” added Kadam.

Deshpande, along with Ravi and John, then took the complainant to Deshpande’s bungalow and locked her inside a room. However, she escaped on March 9 and went to Mumbai where she narrated the incident to her friend. On Tuesday, she came to the city again and lodged a complaint against Deshpande and the other two involved.

The cases have been registered against Deshpande at Deccan, Kothrud, Vishrantwadi, Chatuhshrungi, Hinjewadi and Haveli police stations. She has been running the alleged prostitution racket since 1998.
