When American rapper Flo_Rida was in India to promote Only One Flo (Part 1), his latest album that released early this year, he didn't realise that people would lap it all up.

"I think the idea for an Indian mix came up because Flo_Rida felt that he would return to India," says DJ Suketu, who remixed the Flo_Rida track Turn (5,4,3,2,1). Suketu, who is best known for his Hindi film music mixes, and recently remixed tracks for the soundtrack of Golmaal 3, took up the international project as a challenge.

International mixes have an entirely different musical approach, Suketu tells us. "We rarely have a breakdown in a Bollywood remix because people usually move out of the dance floor when there's one," says Suketu, referring to the part in the mix where the tempo is slowed down almost bringing the track to a stop. "But Flo_Rida wanted a breakdown so it was cool working on it."

Suketu also ingeniously used tabla bols to pick up from where the breakdown occurs in the track. "We recorded all the Indian instrument parts live," says the DJ, adding, "Most people have the same sample database, so using live samples gave us more variations for the tune." Only One Flo (Part 1) also includes collaborations by artists such as Akon and Ludacris.

This isn't the first time that Suketu was approached to remix a track for an international artist though. The DJ also remixed R 'n' B vocalist Iyaz's hit track Replay, adding a Middle Eastern twist to it. "A lot of DJs collaborate with each other abroad.

There's a David Guetta collaborating with The Black Eyed Peas. It's a pity that DJs in India don't work together. Imagine Aqeel and me together on a track -- that would be so cool," says Suketu, who will remix tracks for the upcoming film Race 2 next year.
