Of the 8,500 policemen under the Pune police commissionerate who will be on poll duty, 3,000 will cast their vote through postal ballot and election duty certificate (EDC) method, a system put in place by the police administration department in the city.

The Pune, Shirur, Baramati and Maval Lok Sabha constituencies fall under the jurisdiction of Pune police. They go to vote on April 17, when the 8,500 Pune Commissionerate personnel will be deployed for bandobast duty here.

In order to allow these police personnel to cast their vote, the administration has made arrangements of postal ballot and election duty certificates for the first time.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Tushar Doshi said, “In the EDC method, any police personnel can cast vote at the nearest polling booth in the area where he has been deployed.

They can show the EDC to election officials at that booth and need not travel back to their constituency.”

“For those who have been deployed out of the city, postal ballot system works best. They can fill up a form about their constituency and place of residence and submit it to the election officer.

They will then receive a postal ballot at their residential address and they can cast their vote and send it back,” Doshi said.

“Over 800 policemen will use EDC while 2,200 will use postal ballots,” he said.
