Marathi film industry's Girija Oak and Surud Godbole to wed tomorrow despite Hindu calendar having no muhurt on day
FEW weddings are scheduled in the city tomorrow as it is not an auspicious day according to the Hindu calendar, but for some couples like Marathi film actress Girija Oak and Surud Godbole, son of actor and lyricist Shrirang Godbole, there seems to be a certain charm attached to the date. After all, tomorrow is 11.11.11.
The couple will be tying the knot at the Poona Club in Cantonment.

Shrirang Godbole said that November 11, 2011, would be easy to remember for everybody because of the 11.11.11 combination of numbers. He said the decision to get married on the day was taken by the couple.
"We'd be performing religious rituals a day earlier in Mumbai," he said. Girija's mother Padmashri said, "We will be inviting an official from the Register Office as the marriage will have to be registered first. Of course, 11-11-11 is a unique day, but anyway what is more important is that the marriage should prove successful and they remain married all their lives."
Few hall bookings
Most of the 500 marriage halls in the city will remain unoccupied tomorrow as the auspicious days start only in the middle of next week. "As per the date in the Panchang and the Ruikar Panchang, the days of muhurt are between November 16 and December 25, when most of the weddings are to be conducted," said Kirshor Sarpotdar, president of the Catering Association Pune. "It is really strange that 99 per cent of the marriage halls in Pune will remain empty."
Prakash Dingankar, from Mahalaxmi Marriage Hall, Parvati, said all six marriage halls of his will remain free tomorrow. As most people believe the muhurt is more important than an attractive date like 11.11.11, and as tomorrow is not an auspicious day, marriages will only be registered on the day and there will be no performance of traditional or religious rituals. "We won't perform any religious rituals but only register marriages," said Sanjay Velankar, owner of Rama-Raman Mangal Karyalaya.
Okay in numerology
According to numerologist Dr Madhusudan Ghanekar, while the number 11.11.11 is not necessarily inauspicious, people should take care not to get married at 11 am, as it comes under the contact of Shani.u00a0 "It will be better to get married at 11.11 am on 11.11.11," he said.
In Bollywood
There will be wedding bells in Bollywood as well on 11.11.11 as Roshan Vichare, assistant director of Rockstar, will be marrying Sanyaka Ahire.
