Shortly after winning Wimbledon in 2013, Bartoli abruptly announced her retirement from professional tournaments. She became a TV commentator after her retirement. She won eight WTA Tour titles during her career, with the highest WTA ranking at No. 7 in 2012. Bartoli aimed at returning to professional court next March, probably during the Miami Open. She needs wild cards in some tournaments for improving her world ranking. Bartoli's comeback was also a huge boost for France, who last won the Fed Cup in 2003.
