Four held in property dealer's murder outside Mira Road bar

The Mumbai Crime Branch on Saturday presented four accused at the Esplanade Magistrate court, who were allegedly involved in a firing case outside a bar in Mira Road-Bhayander killing Vijay Pradhan alias Bunty, proprietor of Dolphin Properties in April this year.

The accused, identified as Rajesh alias Daaya Ramesh Chauhan, 34, Ravindra Ramesh Arya, 38, Mukesh Shetty, 29, and Jatashankar Pande alias Sanny, 30, have been remanded to police custody till September 29. On Friday, the Mumbai Crime Branch received a tip-off about four people planning to rob a businessman at Kandivli. In a trap, the four were caught opposite Sarovar hotel in Kandivali on the same day. However, Raju, their accomplice fled the spot while taking advantage of the crowd.


All four accused have disclosed their involvement in the firing. In fact, two of the accused are history-sheeters. While Chauhan has 12 cases against him including murder, attempt to murder and robbery, Mukesh has two. Police are investigating how the firing was executed, and if there were others involved.

Mira Road resident Vijay Pradhan, who was the proprietor of Dolphin Properties, was drinking with his friends and cousin at Pushpak bar in the Golden Nest locality. No sooner had they stepped out at 9.30 pm, on April 13, that they were attacked by two men on motorcycles.

The unidentified assailants opened four rounds of fire, shooting Pradhan in the head. One of his friends, Sachin Vijaykar, was also shot. He was later taken to Thunga Hospital in Mira Road, where he succumbed to injuries. Pradhan’s cousin Rajesh Johori, who was also part of the group, managed to escape unhurt.
