Suspension order against nine students revoked after issuance of warning. Several girls were allegedly manhandled at the bash

Appropriate action or a cover-up? Decide for yourself. Following a disciplinary meeting on Thursday, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) authorities decided to revoke the suspension order against nine students after warning them.

The crux of the issue was the freshers' party held on campus on the night of August 31 that went on beyond the stipulated time period. The celebrations were being held in the recreation room of the boys hostel. Students have alleged that officials manhandled them and even dragged some girls back to their rooms and locked them from the outside. Authorities claim they only asked the girls to return to their rooms, as it is against the rules for them to be staying on in the Gent's hostel.

"The boys wanted the girls to stay late for the party and we could not have allowed it at any cost," said a security official, requesting anonymity.

When the Dean did not come out of his residence, students started shouting slogans.

"They first went to the Anti- Ragging Committee of the institution, and various other officials. But finally they were asked to speak to the Dean regarding the issue," the official added. The students have also rubbished the allegations that they were drunk and were creating a ruckus.

"They have taken the names of some girls who were not even present at the party," a second-year student claimed.

According to sources, nine students were supposed to be suspended for misbehaviour. But no serious action was initiated against them.

"The students have been given a warning. The committee has asked them to write a letter of apology," said a senior official from AIIMS on condition of anonymity.

"I am not a media friendly person. I cannot comment anything", said Dr RC Deka, director, AIIMS, when asked to comment on the matter.
