Sick of asking your friend whether the skinny jeans you’ve tried on are making you look slimmer, or if you’d be able to pull off those pair of neon heels? Well, looks like Pooja Chadha, founder, Extra Mile Café, had a feeling this was coming. The next time you go shopping, she hopes her Style Concierge can step in and save the day.
Style Concierge — a service provided every Friday starting August 10, at R City Mall, Ghatkopar — includes a one-hour session with a stylist, and a skin, make-up and haircare consultation.

“Take an appointment in advance and you can sit with a stylist and have a one-on-one session with her. You can discuss any concerns you might have — whether a particular trend will suit you or what you could wear to a party. If you want more than just a consultation, the stylist will accompany you on your shopping trip around the mall, advising you on what to buy,” Chadha elaborates.
Kanthi Kumar, one of the stylists on board, says she loves the challenge. “It’s all about creating a rapport with the person in the limited amount of time we get,” she says. The 28 year-old has worked as a stylist for two years with a number of magazines, including Seventeen Magazine, Elle and Vogue. This job, however, is about styling regular people who may be clueless about what to wear to work or to a party. “It’s very exciting when the person I have advised gives me positive feedback. I feel happy introducing them to a new trend or different accessories, or telling them how to pair neon with other colours.”
Kumar, who makes sure she stays on trend by blogging and reading fashion magazines, believes it is important to be blunt while styling a client. In the past, she has had clients with a taste for some pretty strange looks. “One girl wanted to wear bright two-tone pants to work. And she worked in a bank! Her boss told her she had to mute her look. She just wouldn’t agree, and wanted to buy neon pinks and purples. So I tried on the clothes she wanted to buy and showed her. That’s when she realised how ugly the combination was.”
Style Concierge’s services don’t end at helping you reinvent your wardrobe. After the shopping, an expert from the Style Concierge team will take you for a skin and make-up consultation as well as a hair makeover at the mall’s salon, Drama. “The goody bag you get once you sign up for the session includes a Rs 1,800 voucher, which you can redeem at the salon whenever you like. You also get free massage sessions,” adds Chadha.
“People are very conscious of their image these days,” says Chadha. The styling workshops they’ve been conducting at Extra Mile Café have been a huge hit. “Bringing this service to the mall is important because that’s where people shop. The stylist will help you make the right decisions so you don’t end up with unused stuff in your wardrobe.” Looks like your days of making disastrous shopping decisions are finally going to be over.
