They say what you do on January 1 defines what you'll do the rest of the year. The Guide gets you the 10 zaniest things you should try out, so that the coming 364 days are as crazy and as much fun

Behind closed doors

Go behind the bizarre, unexplored, even eerie. If old, deserted monuments seems too scary at first, start with the simple. Take the Metro to Chandni Chowk, and do what no one's ever done at the Paranthewaali Gali. There's a door between the two famous Paranthewaalas, one that reads 'Bangalore Emporium'. It stands shunned and shut, with a broken lock. Open it and discover a forgotten piece of history no one ever dared do!u00a0

New years are to change. The way you live and the way you look. And nothing does it better than an afternoon appointment at the salon. Change your style, get some streaks, flaunt a fringeu2026 whatever your wackiest fantasy. Wear something new and unusual to complement the look. And heck, who cares if it goes a little awry... ghar ki kheti hai, it'll grow back.

Destination anywhere
Thank God it's Friday -- a sign that you must awaken your adventurous side. Pack your bag and set out for just about anywhere life takes you. Book the whole day, perhaps the whole weekend, to do what you've always dreamt of: taking any random bus route, seeing parts of the city you haven't, crossing boundaries and landing up in the lap of nowhere. Even funner if you can find like-minded friends or a partner.u00a0

Attend a gay party
Get an insight into the other side of life, the wild way. The good thing about the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) community is that they pose no restrictions, so everyone's invited. Doesn't matter what your orientation; we bet this'll be much more fun than what you did last night. They make for great friends, and would be happy to have you as part of their celebrations of newfound freedom. If you're a homophobic, time you shed your prejudices.

Leave 'em a real tip
In all probability, you're going to go out for dinner tonight, right? Do the restaurant a favour: instead of leaving a heavy tip as usual, leave a note with positive criticism and some helpful suggestions on it. Sign off with something like: 'everyone leaves you a tip. We left you one that'll really benefit you this year.' As offensive as it may seem at first, it's bound to make the manager smile.

Cycle date
It's the eco-friendliest way to fun. Live out that childhood feeling by renting a bike in North Campus, the BRT corridor or at Metro stations, and tell her how nothing fans love like fresh winter air. Make sure she hugs you tight while riding pillion, and park occasionally for garam chai and street munchies. Conscientious
bhi, cute bhi.

Eat what you've been avoiding
Unless you have a serious allergy, do what you wouldn't ever think of, otherwise. Hate brinjal? Cook up an en exotic dish, and you'd never say no to it again. Can't stand pumpkin? Here's what to prepare to start loving it:

One wild workout
The rhythm's set and you're pretty much in the groove, but how about giving your workout a fun new twist? Disco Yoga and Cardio Striptease are good, but how about Gridiron workout: Punt, pass and kick. It is derived from the practices of by football players, the emphasis being on speed and agility.

Phone the unknown
Each one of us has some numbers on our phone list that areu2026 erru2026 unknown. We don't remember where we got them, whom they belong to, and if they're functional anymore. Muster the courage to send in a ring, and when the voice at the other end asks who, why, what, start with a wish and explain how you called for a quick recall. It might just grow into a good connection in the days to come. If it doesn't, it'll be a good phonebook clean-up op!

Shock wrap your cellphone
If you've always been the good boy or girl around, do something that totally changes their perception of you, and shows them you've arrived. Use a fancy ribbed condom as your cellphone cover the whole day. Raise eyebrows and fantasies. Do it without a care, like it's only so normal.
