This year's Mumbai Film Festival brings great news for film buffs with several workshops and newer genres of movies
Apart from the fact that The Mumbai Film Festival 2012 will feature over 200 films, this year the festival will offer film lovers an opportunity to attend workshops and engage in panel discussions with giants from the industry.
It features a two-day Pitching Screenwriting and Script Development Masterclass, which will let participants interact with Claire Dobbin, script consultant and chair of the Melbourne International Film Festival, renowned scriptwriter David Maggee and filmmakers Madhu Mantena (Ghajini), Guneet Monga (Gangs of Wasseypur) and Dev Benegal.

This Saturday, science fiction movie buffs can attend a discussion between Gary Kurtz, producer of Hollywood films such as Star Wars and The Steal, and Anubhav Sinha, director of Ra.One, on how a good sci-fi movie gets made. Participants can also attend an open panel discussion on the state of film preservation and the challenges faced by archives. Veteran actor Jaya Bachchan will be conducting a workshop on acting this Monday and there are also classes on production and direction.
The festival is also offering a platform for Mumbai-based filmmakers to showcase their talent in a competition segment titled Dimensions Mumbai. One of the other highlights of the fest is a competition for Indian filmmakers, titled India Gold 2012. It will include the screening of 13 Indian language films by debut directors.
To mark the centenary celebration of Indian cinema, the festival will be screening restored silent films such as Raja Harishchandra, Marthand Varma, Throw Of Dice, Sati Savitri and Jamai Babu. They will be accompanied by live orchestra.
