Bal Thackeray’s memorial is under preparation but what a lot of people don’t know is that the gold that will be used for decorating the marble ‘Om’ frame, will be donated by Shakil Khan, the founder and CEO of Gold Leaf Studio. Khan, whose company deals with gold leafing, silver leafing, copper leafing, and other metals, was called by the Shiv Sena to decorate the marble ‘Om’ frame with gold. However, Khan decided that he will not charge a penny for the gold and even for the work.

“There are very few leaders like Thackeray in the world. For me, he’s in the league of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel among others. So I decided to do the work for free,” Khan told SUNDAY MiD DAY. Khan is not aware at the moment about the quantity of the gold that would be required, but he claims that he won’t back out now as he has given his word.
Recently, Saamna, the mouthpiece of Shiv Sena reported on its front page that while they were finding it difficult to get a particular tile for the garden, Umarbhai from Kurla stepped in and got the tiles. The paper stresses that Umar stepped in the moment he heard that the tiles were needed for the Balasaheb Thackeray memorial.
