Priti (name changed), at 23 years of age, entered the fleshtrade in Delhi just to maintain her ‘luxurious’ lifestyle and daily expenses, as the pocket money she received from her parents did not suffice. Priti is among 13 girls rescued from a high-profile prostitution racket being run in several lodges of Hijewadi and Sangavi area where pimps traded these girls to customers. In a joint operation by the Sangavi, Hinjewadi and Bhosari-MIDC police the lodges were raided resulting in the arrest of 13 pimps. The age group of the girls is 20-25.u00a0

“Priti went missing from her home in Delhi on June 25. When her family got to know from their relatives that she could be in Pune, they approached us. Following which we led a trap on Wednesday at Pimple Saudagar where we found her with three other girls and two pimps Divesh Ram Mohanto and Ajay Lokbahaddur Giri,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone III) Shahaji Umap.

Umap said that after rescuing Priti, the police handed her over to her mother. However, to their surprise she was not ready to go with her parents and said that she wanted to live lifeon her terms. “The girl claimed that she is used to a luxurious lifestyle and will not be happy to reunite with her parents,” said Umap. Umap also said that some of the rescued girls were staying with pimps in one flat but the landlord was not aware of it.u00a0

“Considering their social responsibility, landlords should take precautions while renting out flats to girls and boys who intend to stay together and accommodation should be provided only after verification,” said Umap. u00a0
