Breakthrough: The Bandra police arrested Nilesh Shrivastav, the security supervisor of the store, on Sunday

MiD DAY had reported the crime in its edition on October 7 (‘Jewellery store robbed, security guard missing’). According to investigations, Shrivastav had stolen from his employer to gift the jewellery to his daughter on her birthday, which is today. The police have recovered the jewellery from his residence at Government Colony in Bandra (west).

On the day of the crime, Shrivastav asked his fellow guard to take rest while he kept vigil at the store. He had planned the robbery months in advance and had also made the duplicate keys to the store. After robbing the shop, where he had been working for more than a year, he returned to work and even helped the police in their investigations. But, when the police started taking fingerprints, he got scared and fled from the spot.

A police officer from the Bandra police station said, “Shrivastav was produced in the Bandra court on Monday and remanded to police custody till October 9. Further investigations are on.”u00a0
