After news that actor Vijay Raaz took charge of directing an upcoming film on Indo-Pak relations, here’s another piece of information. Gulzar has agreed to play narrator to the storyline. The last time he narrated for a film was back in 2004 — Rituparno Ghosh’s Raincoat.

Now, after an interval of many years, the acclaimed lyricist and filmmaker has decided to lend his voice to an upcoming anti-war project. The film has him reciting a few lines to convey the gist of the film. Gulzar heard the narration of the film before it went on floor and liked the idea.

And the fact that it has strong messages against the futility of war and talks about human relationships in a very humorous way compelled him to team up. “It doesn’t have bloodshed and is not political in nature at all and yet makes such a beautiful point of peace between two neighborhood countries,” Gulzar says.

The film is about the bond between an Indian and a Pakistani soldier stationed at the Indo-Pak border and is slated to release later this year.u00a0Gulzar also agreed to mentor the whole project and hence not only did he write the lyrics but also decided to recite some introductory lines before the songs. He believes cinema can be very effective in improving cross-border relationships.u00a0

The 75-year-old veteran adds, “I believe both the countries must see a film like this to remember what we have forgotten. After all we were one nation once and there is no difference in human emotion here and there.”u00a0Along with this, Gulzar has other projects in pipeline. He confirms, “I am writing something for Rahman and working on Vishal Bhardwaj and Yash Chopra’s films.”u00a0
