Hanks game for third Langdon film

After playing the fictional Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon in 'Da Vinci Code' and the upcoming 'Angels and Demons', Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks says he is "game for" the third edition.

Both the films have been adapted from the best selling novels by author Dan Brown, who has already finished the third book in the Langdon trilogy titled 'The Lost Symbol'. The novel is expected to hit the stands in September this year and if reports are to be believed Columbia Pictures is already planning to adapt it into a film.

The story of 'The Lost Symbol' features the celebrated fictional hero once again and the action in the story takes place within a 12-hour time period. "I haven't caught hold of the book as yet but I am sure it will be much more exciting and adventurous so as an actor I am game to be a part of such an exuberant script. I would love to do roles like Robert Langdon again, but it depends," Hanks told PTI in an email interview from Los Angeles.

The 52-year-old star seems to have fallen in love with his on screen character and his capabilities to solve riddles as the actor believes that Langdon "is the only man in the world with such a job and expertise".

The 'Forrest Gump' star, who has been paired opposite Israeli actress Ayelet Jurer in 'Angels and Demons', says, "I love figuring out how his mind works. How he leaps from one conclusion to next so deftly. "He's a Symbologist with an encyclopaedic knowledge of codes, riddles, symbols, games, puzzles and history- who can connect each in context," Hanks says.

The story of the film revolves around Hanks' character and how he rushes ahead of time to unravel the mysteries of a secret society called the Illuminati and to prevent a plot from annihilating Vatican City using destructive antimatter.

The film, which was earlier scheduled to release on May 15, will now hit the theatres on May 29. It is being distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment in India.

The actor is unperturbed by the controversies surrounding the storyline as he believes that the film is essentially a "whodunit" with certain "fictionalised" aspects. "There is no major theological discussion that goes on in the film, other than science versus faith...I just solve the murder," says the actor about his role in the film.

Hanks, who has a huge fan following across the world, was especially delighted to know about his idol status in India. "I am honoured to have such an enormous fan following way back in India," the actor says. He, however, turned philosophical when asked about his plans to visit India. "It depends...Let's hope for the best as nobody including me, knows what's hidden in the layers of time," he adds.

The actor, who was one of the star supporters of Barack Obama during his run for the presidential post, believes that the young President is the "saviour" of America. "I had offered my support to our honourable president Barack Obama in the form of an endorsement video on his MySpace page," Hanks says adding that it is a matter of pride for the "entire American community to have him as their representative". "I am sure that he will prove to be a saviour for the Americans. I am sure that at least my choice of Obama is going to be fruitful for US," Hanks says.

But when asked whether he had any plans to emulate fellow actor and California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger by joining politics, Hanks declined saying, "No, I am happy as an actor." The 'Philadelphia' actor says that he is content with his professional career and hopes to devote more time to his family. "I am satisfied professionally and content with the huge appreciation which my fans have given me. I plan to live a humble life and to devote time to my family and fulfil their dreams and aspirations," the actor says.
