Nari Contractor, who was officially appointed as Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) new Cricket Improvement Committee chief yesterday, was happy to serve Mumbai cricket again

Contractor had a meeting with MCA officials yesterday to confirm his appointment. “I am happy to be re-associated with Mumbai cricket. Once the full committee is formed, we will decide how to go about things,” Contractor told MiD DAY.u00a0

Contractor’s major contribution to Mumbai cricket was his selection of former England pacer Frank Tyson to spearhead the BCA-Mafatlal Bowling Scheme in 1990. Contractor has the experience of being associated with the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bangalore as a Talent Resource Development Officer (TRDO) for West Zone.


Contractor takes over from former India stumper Chandrakant Pandit, who was asked to step down in April, following his association with Rajasthan Cricket Association as Director of indoor academy.

The former India captain’s role will be to appoint coaches for Mumbai’s senior and junior teams, and the necessary support staff. The CIC will also make key appointments at the MCA indoor academy in Bandra Kurla Complex. CIC. The panel first formed by former MCA president Sharad Pawar, gives cricketers a freehand to appoint coaches, selectors and support staff.u00a0
