After enduring harassment from her husband and in-laws for over a year-and-a-half, a 27-year-old techie committed suicide at her residence in Namrata Magic society, Pimple Saudagar on Saturday night.
Police said that Priyanka Surwade hanged herself after she could not bear the torment by her husband Saurabh and mother-in-law Kusum who harassed her because she gave birth to a girl child.

Sangvi police have arrested both of them under Sections 498(a) (subjecting a woman to cruelty), 306 (abetting suicide) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Both were produced in the court yesterday, after which they were remanded in three-days police custody. Priyanka’s mother Pramila Ashok Dole (47) from Indore had lodged a complaint in this regard.
“Saurabh and Priyanka got married on May 18, 2012. It was an arranged marriage. Priyanka had completed her B. E. Information Technology course from Institute of Engineering and Technology in Indore.
Saurabh works as a deputy manager in a vehicle manufacturing company at Chakan,” said Manohar Sonawane, police sub-inspector. “After marriage, Saurabh and his mother started harassing Priyanka and repeatedly asked her to bring Rs 3 lakh to purchase a car, gold chain and rings.
Saurabh used to consume alcohol and after coming home, he used to abuse Priyanka for disrespecting him and his family during the marriage ceremony.
A year later, Priyanka gave birth to a girl child following which Saurabh and his mother started harassing her even more. Saurabh used to tell Priyanka that he wants a son next time. Frustrated by the constant harassment, Priyanka hanged herself on Saturday night,” Sonawane added. u00a0
