Noted Bharatnatyam dancer Padmini Ravi tells MiD DAY why she chose Vivek Oberoi for Priyanka Alva, who she considers her daughter

A college friendship between Vivek Oberoi'su00a0 mausi and the noted Bharatnatyam dancer Padmini Ravi, seems to have earned him the hand of city damsel Priyanka Alva.

"Vivek's mausi Chitra Narang and I used to be college friends in Chennai. We met after years and I found that they were looking for a girl for Vivek. So things just happened with full consent of both families," said Ravi.

"He could have been anyone. The match has not been fixed because he is Vivek Oberoi.

To us, he is a simple and honest human being with the kind of values Priyanka has grown up with," said Ravi, who also co-organises Bengaluru Habba, the biggest annual cultural festival in the city with Nandini Alva.

"Birth, death and marriages are made in heaven. We sincerely believe that it was destined," said Ravi.

Priyanka graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2003. At present, Priyanka works for social and environmental causes in the city.

Ravi, who refused to divulge the dates of the big wedding said, "It all happened in a traditional way between two conservative families by matching the horoscopes. Priyanka is like my daughter and I am very happy for her."

However, when asked if gossips about Vivek Oberoi's past affairs bothered her, Padmini refused to comment and said, "To us he is just Vivek, a very nice boy."
