He smiles at me all the time, but never says hello
Introducing Dr Love, who solves your relationship riddles in a confusing digital age
There is a guy in my office who keeps smiling at me whenever we meet in the corridor, but never comes up and introduces himself. I don't know if I like him because I don't know him, but it would be nice if he could just muster up some courage and say hello. How do I get him to do this?
What's stopping you from introducing yourself or just saying hello instead?
My girlfriend says she wants to end our relationship after a year, because we should see other people. This doesn't even make sense because we have been together for six months and have no problems that I can see. She wants to do this only because she thinks she should date a number of people before settling down. I understand that meeting and dating many people is good, because it opens us up to new perspectives and we end up learning more about ourselves, but I also think her approach is clinical and heartless, because it ignores a good relationship just so she can go and tick something off her list. I am tempted to end this right now, because I am so annoyed by her attitude. How do I get her to see things from my point of view?
If she's adamant about doing this, for whatever reason, why are the two of you in such a clinical relationship? If she has an end to this clearly defined already, irrespective of how it evolves, why do you feel the need to try and convince her? Relationships can't evolve or thrive in an environment that involves start and end dates, because they are about living beings, not inanimate objects. Your girlfriend may have a perfectly reasonable explanation for why she has to live life to the fullest, but I don't see why you have to go with it if it means you will only hurt yourself in the bargain. Ask yourself if it's worth it before making any decision.
