Crime Branch arrests notorious thief who stole high-end cars as getaway vehicles; he managed to sell 12 cars
In what can be termed as a major achievement for the Mumbai Crime Branch's Unit XI, yesterday, its officers nabbed a car thief for allegedly stealing high-end vehicles and using them to flee after committing break-ins and dacoities in the city. Acting on a tip-off the officials arrested Deepak Lal Pratap Singh alias Guru More (36) from Kranti Nagar, Kandivli West.
A history-sheeter
According to Raghunath Dalvi, PI, Unit XI, More who was released from jail in January, had robbed 12 high-end cars including Pajero, Honda City and Tavera from various localities in the city. The officers investigating the case informed that More used to steal these vehicles to escape the spot after committing crimes like dacoities and housebreakings, for which he has been jailed in the past.
Getaway cars
"More revealed that when he was arrested for the first time last year, he had come in contact with a gang of car thieves during his time in jail. It was the gang who gave him the idea of robbing cars for committing other crimes, so that he could escape quickly, and make extra money by selling off the car," said Dalvi.
Accomplice at large
With More in their custody, the police have now launched a manhunt for his accomplice, who used to sell the stolen cars to prospective buyers in other cities. "We would be presenting More in the court on Saturday.
Investigations will be initiated to unearth his previous crimes," added Dalvi.
