Help pours in form all quarters for 65-year-old marathon runner

Days after MiD DAY published the report about how a 65-year-old woman ran a 3-km-race in a 9-yard sari to fund her husband’s MRI scan, on December 20, monetary help is pouring in for Lata Kare from Pimpli in Baramati from all sectors. Overwhelmed by the assistance they have been receiving for the last four days, the Kares opened their first bank account yesterday.

‘Thank you all’: The Kares expressed their gratitude towards all those who helped them monetarily

Lata Kare’s son Sunil said, “We are very delighted to know that so many people are helping us. Earlier, we did not have a bank account. But today itself I opened an account so that those who cant visit us personally to give monetary help can transfer it there. The account is in my mother, Latabai Bhagwan Kare’s name. I request all those who are reading this to help us. We’ll always be grateful to all those who aided us.”u00a0

Sunil works as a daily wage labourer on farms. Lamenting about the lack of steady inflow of income, he said, “I am ready to work for a salary of Rs 5,000, but we need it on a monthly-basis to survive.”

Apart from receiving help from individuals and NGOs, Kare said a few authorities like taluka president Vanita Bankar also visited the family but only to felicitate his mother.
