The Spice Girls have come together again! The all-girl band have reunited for the first time in four years to launch a stage musical Viva Forever inspired by their pop careers
The British pop group formed in 1994 has been through a lots of ups and downs in their career. CS brings you some more info on the group:
>> Spice Girls formed in 1994, comprised of Victoria Beckham (née Adams) “Posh Spice”, Melanie Brown “Scary Spice”, Emma Bunton “Baby Spice”, Melanie Chisholm “Sporty Spice”, and Geri Halliwell “Ginger Spice”.
>> On 7 June 1996, the Spice Girls released their debut single “Wannabe” in the United Kingdom which was played 502 times a week. The song proved to be a global hit, hitting number 1 in 31 countries and becoming not only the biggest selling debut single by an all-female group but also the biggest-selling single by an all-female group of all time.
>> When Nelson Mandela met the Girls, he called them his heroes and that it was one of the greatest moments in their life.
>> On 31 May 1998, Halliwell announced her departure from the Spice Girls. Halliwell claimed that she was suffering from exhaustion and wanted to take a break. The group eventually split. Viva Forever was the last single taken off Spiceworld.
>> Ticket sales for the first London date of “The Return of the Spice Girls” World Tour sold out in 38 seconds. It was reported that over one million people signed up in the UK alone and over five million worldwide for the ticket ballot on the band’s official website.u00a0
