A list of the best gaming gear from this year's Consumer Electronic Show held in Las Vegas last week
The Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas is perhaps the biggest gadget show in the world. Loaded with prototypes and never-seen-before technological marvels, it's a wonderland for any geek. Held over three days between January 9 and 12, this year's show featured a lot of gaming-related gear and services.
Merge VR 6DoF Blaster
Merge VRs new Blaster toy gun takes gaming on your phone to a whole new level. The device lets you shoot, duck and reload while playing an FPS on your phone. While the device is just prototype Merge VR has already created a playable game to show the capabilities of the device. The simple gadget uses all of your phones internal sensors just like it would in VR to put you in the middle of the game. The company hopes that game developers will pick up the developer kit for the gun and build games around it. Merge VR already has a thriving VR platform for gaming aimed at kids.

Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition laptop
Asus launched a special gaming laptop designed with MOBA (Multiplayer online battle arena) players in mind, the laptop is endorsed by eSport legends SKT T1. SKT T1 are a big deal, they have won several League of Legend championships it is also the home team of Faker AKA Sang-Hyeok Lee regarded as the most skilled player in the game. The portable computer will feature an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB memory, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics and a 15.6-inch display with 100 per cent sRGB. The pack obviously comes with some goodies that include a t-shirt, a mouse pad and lots of stickers and posters. The Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition laptop will sell from $1,700 and will be available in the US in the next few months.

Intel Radeon Vega RX
Intel dropped a huge gaming bomb during its press conference at CES by launching a new set of 8th generation processors with built in Radeon Vega RX graphics and 4GB GDDR5 RAM. The chip is perfect for next generation of enthusiast laptops that are capable of gaming. During launch, the company claimed the processor was capable of graphic processing that's higher than a Nvidia GTX 1050. Intel also launched a new VR capable NUC (Next Unit of Computing) system based on the new processor. The NUC seems like it was built with gaming in mind and features several USB ports, Thunderbolt ports, display options and even an optical out audio. The system is barebones, which means you will have to invest in a hard drive and RAM. While the $999 price tag for the loaded i7-base NUC may put some people off, the size to performance factor is truly a thing of beauty.

Asus Bezel-free kit
Asus launched an ingenious bezel-free kit that basically uses prisms to eliminate the bezels in a three-monitor setup. The kit is easy to install and has no electronic component to setup or tinker around with. Though the bezels do disappear, you can see the prisms clearly on the monitors. The kit uses micro-structures that refract the light bending it inwards to hide the bezels. The lenses are made from a transparent thermoplastic that lets 90 per cent of the light through, which is probably why you can see them clearly on the monitor. Asus claims glass could fix the problem but that would make the device too fragile for mass production. While this isn't a perfect solution, it beats having to see the bezels where the monitors connect. There's no word on price yet, but considering it is a piece of plastic, it shouldn't be too high.

GeForce Now
Nvidia officially launched a beta application for its cloud gaming platform GeForce Now. The application lets you play all the latest games with max settings on a cheap laptop that may not otherwise have the chops to play graphic intensive games like Injustice 2, Assassin's Creed and Player Unknown Battlegrounds. The beta is free for now but it requires an invitation. You can play any free-to-play game or you can log in to your Steam or UPlay account to play games you have bought. There is no restriction on the amount of cloud storage available so you can install any game you want and play it as much as you want. The system requires an invitation to try out the beta and a 25Mbps Internet connection for optimum smoothness.
