The Pune police have now asked the cyber cell to probe the case of the morphed pictures of Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod about reaching the Everest summit.

The cyber cell police are now in the process of examining the pictures. The constable couple claimed to have scaled Mount Everest on May 23.

On June 17, eight mountaineers of the Pimpri Chinchwad Mountaineering Association approached the Pune police commissioner Rashmi Shukla and challenged the claims of the Rathod couple. Following that an inquiry was ordered.

"The original pictures that belong to a mountaineer from Bengaluru have been submitted to the cell," the official said.

Meanwhile, police officers who had helped Rathod raise funds (that run into lakhs) for the mountaineering trip are shocked by the development.

"We helped them on many occasions, but now regret doing that," said a police official on condition of anonymity.
