New Delhi: Hockey India (HI) yesterday felicitated 13 living members of the 1975 World Cup-winning hockey team at a glittering ceremony here.

Ajit Pal Singh, the captain of the 1975 team, Ashok Kumar, Aslam Sher Khan, Brigadier (retd) Harcharan Singh, Leslie Fernandez, Varinder Singh, Ashok Diwan, Michael Kindo, BP Govinda, Brigadier (retd) HJS Chimni, VJ Phillips, Onkar Singh and Kaliah PE were each honoured with a cheque of Rs 175,000 after 39 years of the historic victory. The widows of Surjit Singh and Shivaji Pawar and the brother of late Mohinder Singh collected their cheques.


The 1975 World Cup team was felicitated on the announcement of India's team for the FIH World Cup in the Hague later this month.


"I hope that our success in the 1975 World Cup will inspire the current team to put up a good show at the upcoming World Cup," said 1975 skipper Ajit Pal Singh.
