Never before has a coveted awards gala been celebrated for its lacklustre as much as the 75th Golden Globe Award, where celebrities turned up in black to protest against the spate of sexual harassment scandals that have rocked Hollywood. First time Golden Globes host Seth Meyers took no time addressing "the elephant not in the room" -- the disgraced mogul Harvey Weinstein -- asserting that he'd be booed at the In Memoriam section 20 years later. Greeting the "ladies and remaining gentlemen," Meyers said, "It's 2018, marijuana is finally allowed and sexual harassment finally isn't... It's been years since a white man was this nervous in Hollywood." Meyers also went on to take a dig at Kevin Spacey and Woody Allen.

Turning up in all black ensembles, Hollywood delivered on its promise to support the Time's Up initiative, created by several female artistes to fight sexual misconduct across the country.

The big gongs went to Lady Bird, HBO's Big Little Lies, and the revenge drama Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Extending the Time's Up campaign to the recognition of women's work, Barbra Streisand took the stage after being introduced as the only woman to get the best director nod at the Golden Globe Awards. "You know, that was 1984. That was 34 years ago.

Folks, time's up," she said, referring to an all-male directors' nomination list. That five of the big winners -- also including The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and The Handmaid's Tale -- were narratives that were backed by female protagonists, further reinstated the theme of the evening.
