Eight men rob a family but give in to a request and leave a mangalsutra behind
Eight armed dacoits were the epitome of politeness as they robbed a businessman and his family of valuables worth Rs 3 lakh.
They wouldn't have done it, they said, if they didn't have to free one of their brothers languishing in jail. They even returned a mangalsutra when the mistress of the house requested them to do so.
The incident occurred at Kaveri Layout, Mudalapalya, when Chandramohan, his wife and two sons woke up early for Mahashivaratri.

Chandramohan went to open the main door at around 4.45 am on hearing the bell ring continuously. A group of eight men armed with knives and choppers barged in, gagged and bound the family members. They later locked them in a room and robbed valuables worth Rs 3 lakh including Rs 50,000 in cash.
They told the victims they needed the money to release one of their brothers who was in jail and requested them to cooperate. While they were ridding Anitha, Chandramohan's wife, of her valuables, she requested in sign language not to take the mangalsutra and gold rings she was wearing. The robbers wanted to know why.

She said she had got the rings during her wedding. They obliged her but threatened to kill them if they informed the police.
They later ransacked the house and escaped after locking the door from the outside. Chandramohan managed to free himself and called the police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Shiva Kumar said the robbers were between 18 and 23 years and spoke Kannada.
